42d “strange red name” I need help with this please 😄

Edna - answered earlier on one of the earlier threads for this puzzle. It's better to join existing threads - or provide details of the crossword.

That's not a good clue - no inclusion indicator, strange is irrelevant, and definition overlpas wordplay. A no-no!

Actually it's so bad that I'm wondering if Edna is the answer!

ChrisE, it was on one of the sporting puzzles, maybe the Irish ones? I looked back and saw the answer had been given. Some of the clues referenced players or teams. I have to say I skim-read it, definitely not my sort of puzzle (ie not cryptic!).

There is an Irish footballer called ENDA Stevens - he plays left back for Sheff Utd - when he was at Doncaster the Donny fans (renowned for our razor sharp wit) all called him EDNA obviously! I`m not familiar with the puzzle but ... if the answers are football related ...

I have seen this answered as [Sadio] MANÉ, the Liverpool footballer, which seems to fit the clue much better.

I`m sure you`re correct Spoffy - it was the Irish connection which threw me - not a puzzle I` ll be seeking out!

Thanks, Spoffy. I checked further back and saw that Rusty gave the Mane answer a week ago! The puzzle, the Irish Times Chequered Flag, is definitely not for me.
