Please ignore my last effort - I was messing about with `leon` backwards!

Just over an hour to go in the Christmas session of Clueless. I feel like Santa as I'm loading up my virtual sleigh with presents for all of you good little girls and boys.

What a great competition. I am always just so impressed at the cleverness of all of you.

This word didn't provide many anagram opportunities, though I wondered if someone would use Leon, and Jono came through there, although it was as a reversal. Otherwise, "lone" was it I thought, although Mattrom proved me wrong, as I had forgotten about Mr. Musk. (There is also an Elon College in the US.) There were also several excellent entries that used a subtractive anagram with "alone," and aristophanes went beyond that with his.

Would anyone dare to use the old "No L' joke? Yes, but again in such fresh ways. I really liked Buddy's all-American entry, referring to the "El," the elevated train in Chicago. A familiar crossword clue on this side of the world. Then there was mattrom - so subtle that at first I thought there was no definition, but on second reading I saw that the definition was "now." Well played.

Of course, Noel doesn't just mean Christmas, but can also be a name. Tyke finally got his Jimi Hendrix clue to go. I'm a big music fan (I actually had a radio show on the station at my university for a number of years. Played a lot of Devo, Buddy.)

There were also great homophones, hidden words, both forward and back, and constructions with such things as "the Spanish." Please forgive me, if I didn't mention your name specifically, but I don't want to ramble on too long. Suffice it to say that I enjoyed every single entry.

Now to pick a winner - the tough part. The joint winner is Buddy - with himself - because he had three great clues. First with the aforementioned

Chicago's train not running on Christmas (4)

Then there was

What are the odds? No one ill at Christmas! (4)

despite the slight ambiguity of what makes odd in the word "ill," but taken as the whole phrase I think it works.

and finally

Great Expectations, perhaps is lacking versus A Christmas Carol (4)

Congratulations, buddy, and here is your prize:

Congrats buddy - decisive win! Thanks mprs, and for the clips.

I saw a programme about the making of "Fairytale of New York", including the video. Apparently the NYPD didn't have a choir at the time; their pipe band substituted. They didn't know the words of "Galway Bay", so they mimed with the words of the Mickey Mouse song!
