An excellent crossword from Doc I thought.

Only query I have is 84ac. "The PUDDING has 3d's in it' (5) I have ADDE?

Is it 'Added' (it has 3 D's!)? I can't relate that to pudding.

I also have added. I did think it strange but presumably it was linked to pudding to fit the general theme.

I’m over the line! It helped to think of the unclued lights cryptically rather than literally.
Thoroughly enjoyable solve. Now to celebrate with the free champagne that I got with my new Spectator subscription!

Enjoy the bubbly unclued :-).

I was fortunate enough to win first prize in last year's Xmas competition. The champagne was very nice indeed(as was the cheque!)

A very satisfying puzzle and a vast improvement on last years I would say.

Thanks the_bard. I must say the Spectator are very generous with their Christmas prizes - unlike the Listener. It is great to have a special crossword linked to Christmas - and a jumbo!

Jadzia, you are looking for a word that goes on the end of green to make a place in London.

An entertaining puzzle, although not as fiendish as the old double puzzles, which used to reference more obscure carols than this one does. However, it was worth it just to discover the anagram of episcopal - it goes up there in the Pantheon of Anagrams alongside orchestra/carthorse.
Paphy Shirtmacs to you all (5,9)
