Oh Dear! I missed that entirely. Thanks, Aristo. I think I need something to wake me up.

Wasn't that satisfying? After a few decades still my favorite setters. Such structural inventiveness, and charming clues.

I agree, most enjoyable. I liked the way 'Dear Friends' and 'Yours truly' were included.

This is most perplexing. I have a full grid but for two entries with letter patterns TREE? and ES?OR?S which look like they should be "trees" and "escorts" - the problem is the only parts of the letter I haven't accounted for are "stuck with..........escape alternatives" and "yours truly.............uncle sam" - none of which matches any words that could fit my letters - help!!

Okay, I see "goes with......" = escorts but that means I've got two pieces of the letter remaining, namely "stuck with no way out a bit of their grass" and the "yours truly...........sam" - the problem is I've only got the one unfinished clue "tree?" - where have I gone wrong?

I think "stuck with .......way out" might mean 'stuck up a tree' but that still leaves the "yours truly........uncle sam" but I've already got a full grid?

Cancel that - I've got it:-)

Sorry, I've just realised - "way up on someone in the family" - I'm sure of my answer but can't see the wordplay.
