Thanks, Malone. I 've always spelt EXTRAVERT with an "O" in the middle, but it looks as if there are two ways. Also, for 33 Down, I've put AMERICAN DRAMA and that obviously should be DREAM, which is what threw the other two answers out!

Thanks, rocketman. Yes, I had the same thought, about 'extravert' but Chambers said it was simply the same as 'extrovert'.

Like others, I've never come across 'extravert' before.
I was one answer away from finishing, turns out it was 'canzone', which I've also never heard of.
This one I can't parse:
49a Dry period unending in country with sierra (9)
Answer looks like 'waterless'.

TER(m) inside WALES with S(ierra - NATO alphabet)

"Extravert" is actually the "correct" spelling, but has been almost entirely replaced by "extrovert". ("Extra" outside, "Intro", inside)

ChrisE, I think I prefer 'original' to 'correct'! There's no suggestion, in any of my dictionaries, that 'extrovert' could be described as 'incorrect'.

Thanks for the parsing. There were some fun clues this week that used witty word play, like: Showed unhappiness with two-wheeled vehicle (5) and Speech from e.g. 10 Downing Street (7).

But then there were some that just felt like a chore, like this one that involves a plodding letter by letter construction of the answer (which I had to Google to see if it existed): A king facing west, king with Eastern maiden on old Japanese hanging (8)
