“Flippant and comic, even tongue-in-cheek? Investigate our useful starters.

But I’m wondering if the question is a joke. Obviously the first letters spell FACETIOUS, (one of few words containing all vowels in order). Flippant might imply flipping, or reversal, so some type of mirror-writing. But I can’t find any leads with those letter combinations, assuming each digit maps to the same letter.

So my answer, 707, flips to LOL :)

It's weird, I try to fit numbers with letters but there doesnt seem to be anything hidden like square numbers or primes. Almost like you need a key from some exterior information to arrange the numbers?

This is question 23 from the Ritangle competition for A level maths students which is in play right now. See Integralmaths dot org for details and all the preceding questions. Students have to work in teams and shouldn’t be asking for online assistance, so no hints from me ;-)

Thanks, Jono. Skrat posted one of these last months - I have to say I quite enjoyed that one and thought it quite clever.
