Some of the clues were easy but if Barsetshire means nothing to you and you have never heard of Rebelais, what can you do?
I can't parse 22a Something from flora -and from fauna recalled in secluded spot. Ans must be cornflower. I can get the corner but Mr Google doesn't say that wolf is a fauna.
27a This, invariably lethal , used for starters in fight. Ans stiletto.
Is a stiletto always lethal and how does starters fit in , please?

WOLF is the fauna rather than the flora; cornflower is the flora
See other thread for STILETTO

Re 2 dn: 'Please write down scheme for avoiding partition'
- I have 'write down' = 'pen' and 'scheme' = 'plan' but why is 'please' denoted by O? Or am I barking up the wrong tree lol?
Any help gratefully received - thanks!

Gazzar, 'Please write down' gives O Pen, just a request ( to write down) a bit poetic! O tell me that this works for you...
