Hi gooner, I didn't get 44a either. Lawn = material seems very weak. I suppose you get artificial grass, you also get artificial Christmas trees but I hope you'd never get tree = plastic in a crossword.

Mainly a good puzzle though, I thought, I just had to cheat on a few obscurities such as 2d Bird's old beak (a: reeve).

StrangelyBrown, lawn is a type of fabric, material, used in dresses. It might be cotton, but I'd need to check that!

Nothing wrong with "lawn" . . you are all too young, have you not made your own dresses once upon a time ?!

Could not parse several others, though . . .
e.g.
39d Tax measure brought back, cutting a little money (9)
Why would that be Challenge ?

and what is
41a Officer no longer receiving a raise (5)
E - A - T
?
Thanks in advance !
