An irritating clue in this one, as it was one of me early entries

The more correct and obvious answer turned out to be wrong!

The C word as : to observe; notice (slang)
The W word as : to observe attentively

Slight difference in the length of time the eyes are spent looking -:)

It's a homophone for a notable achievement around L for "lake".

I know that for years we have only been giving clues, not actual answers. Although I said I hadn't got a clue, I was thinking along those lines you gave. What is the reference to Swift's? A bird, Jonathan or some other Swift?

it just means "quick", as in "of foot"
