Lots of literary links this week but one clue has us beat.

20d Credit cut off for Detroit? (5)

We have D_C_R.

Looks like it ought to be an anagram of CREDI minus the T but can’t really make sense of DICER or DECIR in relation to Detroit, or any play or play-writer.

Detroit is famous for cider. Can't see how that helps, as I agree with your C and R.

Seems farfetched, but a dicer is used in making cider.

Ah ha! I think you must be right with the Nathan Detroit idea.

Detroit as a persons name was lurking in my mind but ai couldn’t remember who it was.
