I don't know why but I found the crossword this week a bit underwhelming. This theme has come up before, I'm sure.

Anyway, grumble over. I have finished the grid save for 34d. I'm pretty sure of 37a and 39a for the checked letters. Maybe I have got 40a (unclued) wrong; I have an 'oceanic' related answer. Whatever, there is no word in Chambers to fit 34d.

Could anyone offer a hint please? Thank you

Got it. Stupidly, I had double counted so was trying to make a square peg fit the round hole that is 40a.

I’m struggling with the theme on this one. All I can fit in for 19 is cherry stones but have no idea what that means. Any help much appreciated.

I agree with P/worthy - this one is a retread from approx 12 years ago.
