All done but the thinking behind 3d eludes me.

Leading 5, 6, 7, 8, or 9 (4).

Answer has to fit M-I-. My thinking is MAIN for "leading". Stuck there though. There's no obvious link to any of the numbered clues.

No doubt I will be kicking myself within minutes of posting this. ;-)

CHambers gives MAIN = "In games of chance, a number (5 to 9) called before throwing the dice"

Doh! You’d think that after years of doing the WS I would remember to *always* look up words, no matter how well you think you know them. ;-)
