Sixteen setters, only three votes outstanding (pedagogue sitting this one out).

Great clues as always but Jono 29 gets my vote.

I agree with what Jono wrote below. Spike2 @35 had the best of the wordplay in my view. However, I got very technical and ended up rejecting it because I don't think "seaside" works as a definition for maritime. I think you have to actually be at sea. Sorry, Spike.

My vote is Jono @9. Use of French queen for Marie instead of just girl makes it a winner.

mprs, Chambers does define maritime as "Situated near the sea". Now that it is all over save for the lawsuits over absentee and mail-in ballots, I have a question about the "sounds like marry-time" wordplay found in several entries: Is that the British pronunciation of maritime (long E in the middle)? Just wondering.

One of the definitions in Chambers is "situated near the sea".

There's a winner but I'll wait a bit for paul's vote. I think he usually checks in late, so I hope he doesn't mind if I wrap things up earlier than usual. He'll still be able to cast a vote after all!

Chambers may define maritime as by the sea, but that doesn't mean I have to like it. ; ) I realize it's just my opinion though. In my head seaside doesn't work for maritime.
