Reasons given when Welshman quits Old Trafford maintenance team (7)

Old Trafford is a Manchester football and cricket venue.
Taff leaves the ground staff.

(Red herring here if solver tries to remove Taff from Trafford)

Thanks for all your entries. 31 clues from 13 setters. I do agree with Chrise and Jono that our clue crafting can stand up against the professionals.
Anagrams were tough this week and we had a fair share of dogs run, or dung and gurns do (new word for me Faiton). I liked the subtractives from KT17 and Buddy.
Jono had a go at an acronym. There were two clues using GO as G + round which is clever but I'm not sure fair. What do others think? Paul worked overtime this week with some nice touches and I liked , PaulH #10, Faiton#7 and Aristo#33 (Earth/Ground).
Welcome jmmygtal if you have not been here before. Keep going!

But the standout for me this week was the smile and the imagery of Mattrom #31

Kind of string worn on plump bottom (6)

Congrats mattrom - lovely clue.

Thanks dorrien, and for the clip - I was worried about how he was going to slow up enough to land!

Congrats Mattrom & thanks dorrien. GO = G+ROUND was not really a serious attempt, but I did run it past a few experienced setters who said that it was "something Nimrod would like," so maybe not so goofy after all.

What a nice surprise to wake up to! Thank you, Dorrien, for surprisingly fertile words to clue, and for your choice. Good clip - in the "don't try this at home" category, but how Leonardo would have loved to see it.

I liked the idea of Buddy's G+O clue. I could see it cropping up perhaps in the old Wee Stinker. Good to experiment.

Cheers till next week, post daylight saving changes.
