We couldn't have had 3 better days, brendan. If you saw the Guardian on Saturday, you might have seen "10 best isolated viewpoints"; we were withtin walking distance of one, Thorpe Cloud, so we went up there on Sunday. It was heaving - glad to see so many Guardian readers about!

A slightly surprising thing. Although we have a substantial population of Bangladeshi descent around here, seeing a party of them out walking is so rare that we comment on it. On Sunday, though, all of Dovedale was packed with people, and well over half seemed to be of Asian descent - Indians, Sikhs, Pakistanis and far eastern Asians as well. Many of those with paler faces weren't speaking English either! Good to see.

I've never been but it looks and sounds great. I too feel a sense of pride when people from other countries and cultures see and enjoy the best of what Britain has to offer.

I've just read that Thorpe Cloud was the setting for Robin Hood starring Russell Crowe - let's hope he cleared away the empties:-)
