I found this puzzle fairly straightforward (for me!).
20a has the "for starter" indicator for the "a".
LOI was 17d as (if I'm right) it's a bit too colloquial with no indicator of such.

Hi Smot,

20a the Guardian website version of the puzzle doesn't have "for starters" in the clue - do you have the print version?

17d on the other hand has "leaders from" at the very start.

Ah! if you download the pdf it has “for starters” in 20d. In the Guardian online and in the app (which I use) it doesn’t appear. I recall this happened a few weeks back.

Ahh! Thanks Jono, that explains it.

I said in my post to Chris, I'd initially (geddit!) included it in my list of problems with the puzzle but deleted it because I've always had a soft spot for the Everyman and didn't want to be too critical of it, in fact, I'm already racked with guilt for the gripes I did make:-(

... and it was me that said a few weeks back that we should always check the pdf if something doesn’t look right before jumping to conclusions! Oops
20a is rather good in fact!

20a Now I know what it's supposed to be I too think it's an excellent clue, that and 17d are both top drawer.

Can anyone help with parsing 2d? I'm fairly sure I have the full solution to the grid otherwise. Thanks!
