Would appreciate help with the following, please: 14 ac - Dealer's henchman preferring pound to note, and 24 ac - VIP's paltry payment? I think the answers are retailer and sixpence, but can't parse them.

Sixpence, payment. VI, six, P, pence.

Bassett, hinge, gooner, Malone

I got sixpence in the end but thought tuppence was the classic paltry payment. 'I couldn't care tuppence..'
Perhaps a clue with 'ram' mentioned?!

Tuppenny-halfpenny would be too long for 'The Times', if I've spelt it right, but we have some apostrophe lovers here who would approve of tuppenny-ha'penny, just fitting.

ha'p'orth is another version which I probably haven't got right.
