Thanks. I think it's a tough one.
Only solved two in 45 mins.

I've solved about a third so far but it's where to put them that's causing a real headache! Even if they fit they might one of the five answers that need to be replaced - this is going to take some careful working out.

In the Gilbert clue, I can’t see the relevance of “take on board” in the wordplay. I need it to equal X to fit in with my answer.
Any help much appreciated as I am making very slow progress with only two answers entered.

I think it's the notation used in chess when one "takes on board".

Thanks Brendan. I never thought of that. There seems to be a distinct lack of anagrams in this puzzle which has tended to make the solving harder.

I agree, the clue with 12 letter answer is shouting anagram but clearly isn’t, any nudge appreciated. Although I know it’s not entered.
