Can somebody give me the letter count for 35a. I just can’t see it. I’m assuming one clash at the beginning.

Well that was tough but enjoyable. Some of the thematic cells were really difficult to pin down. And alas, without them, my google searches were throwing up all sorts of gubbins initially. Got there in the end though... phew.

In case anyone else doesn’t have the ODQ (it’s on my Christmas list!), I found a pdf of it online so was able to reassure myself that the Wiki mismatch was resolved in the ODQ.

Got there in the end but it took a long time for the penny to drop. Only 2 ??s a) the parsing of 28d and b) the puzzle title (as usual!)

Ah. As ever I wrote that then twigged the title. It's like magic!
