Some of the clues must be modified prior to entry. In actual fact they have a word for "pass" removed from their wordplay before entry..

This may/may not be one of the above...
12a Short cut to the ground protects United fan (4) Grid entry is FU?L

possibilities FUEL/FULL?FURL

For this one I have the answer but can't parse...
14a Sure about embracing unknown older person in Elizabethan theatre? ...looks like SIGNEUR

Bunty, Chambers has an entry for 'ign' - unknown, so that works (it's embraced, inside an anagram of 'sure').

Is the second one SEIGNEUR... anagram of SURE about (for)eign meaning unknown, With ‘for’ being the missing part perhaps?

Ignore that, Malone has it, ign meaning unknown, that’s a new one to me

Thanks, Jono. I like any excuse to look in Chambers, but wasn't really expecting it to be there!

Bunty, I think the other one might just be Fuel, fan, incite. It would be Fel(l),cut to the ground (short= lose last letter), with U, united inside.
