Would welcome help with parsing 21 across, Two things put on six of diamonds? I think the answer is shortstop, which makes sense with first part of the clue, but why six of diamonds, please?

Could it be a baseball reference? There's the baseball diamond, and shortstop is a fielding position, though I don't know why it would be "six".

The shortstop in baseball is given number 6.
