I get The Times newspaper on a Thursday -- and only on a Thursday. On Thursday 13th August 2020, underneath the Times2 Crossword 8356 was the solution to Crossword 8355 -- apparently the crossword of the day before (12th Aug). I saw this and immediately realised I'd done this crossword before -- in the last 3-4 weeks I think. I remember the clues distinctly. E.g. I had to look up the 'Capital of the Bahamas' and then kicked myself - because I should have know that. But 'The __ Candidate, 1962 film' I looked up because I really didn't know this; answer Manchurian. Other clues I remember because I thought they were quite clever: percussive noise (drum beat) and pitch provider (tuning fork). I have a very clear recollection of every clue and answer, but cannot remember where I've seen the crossword before. Mr. Google doesn't help as he says it was only in the 12th August newspaper and I definitely didn't get that. Am I going mad? Grateful for any suggestions. Thanks.

It will be of no help in your quest but there are 11 comments on Puzzle 8355 on the Times website and none of them refer to this being a crossword that they have previously seen. I think that means you can search everywhere other than previous copies of The Times.

Thank you tatters and jono. I've never done the indi crosswords, so I don't think that was it. I usually do the Grauniad crosswords - Speedy, Quick and Everyman. I'll keep on searching ...... Ta.

Odd things can happen. I subscribe to Telegraph online puzzles and one day not long ago two quick crosswords appeared instead of the usual one. One of them then appeared again about a week later.
