An excellent puzzle again today!

Yes, I think it's a gem - but hard to find the source unless you know it (and I didn't).

I googled the rather obvious masticating word which got me nowhere until I thought it might just be worth googling the only other word which fitted... and lo! I did this bloke's stuff at school (when Noah was a boy) bit this one somehow eluded Sir and the rest of us. Fun though.

Was that the last of Schadenfreude (aka Oxymoron)? I suppose it might have been.

I have 13 answers to be entered encoded but cannot find one of them - 45 - in the relevant CITS LPTE

Thanks. Found him (via gutenberg.org). I take it the 3rd letter of the solution to 9d (Fancy ... ) is 'u', but can't see where car fits in ?

I should have said I have a parsing problem with 'a' too !

Unless of course 'fancy' is not a def but an anagram indicator and the punctuation mark is relevant to the answer's last two letters?

Son..., glad you found 45. I've got an A there in 9 D, coming from the car, with the next two letters being 'can it', a request, order.
