Thanks, Syzygy. A great - and very satisfying - puzzle for filling up a Saturday evening!

A great way to blow away the cobwebs on a Sunday morning, thanks again syzygy. Some imaginative clues with b,c & d* (3)s standing out for me.

Phew, that was hard work! But finished. How one sets sbout constructing such a puzzle I have no idea.
I liked d (3) as well. Also 18

Like their old Atlantic Monthly days. Thanks, syz. I don't get one of the d Spinners, which seems to call for meming (is there a verb form of meme?) but has to be miming. But how is miming being sociable?

Yes, the R is wrong. Scraps as in squabbles.

Aristophanes, there's a nice alternative - MI?ING, being sociable, some people are good MI?ers, others aren't...
