Hi Andy,

it's an anagram/plays of "chimpanzee + so" minus A (first note) - definition is "fiddle" (think Bernie Madoff)

Still puzzling over the parsing if 31d:

Vatican right about small shock (6)

I have TREMOR as the answer but cannot see (excuse the pun) why. Can anyone out there put me out of my misery??

8d Artist consuming little island dish (5)
If the 'r...a' at the beginning and end is the artist, how is 'ait' little island?

Also can't see this pair, the last letter of the down clue is the first of the across:

49d Turn out for Louis I in European court (5)
I'm thinking something like ELICT but I don't think that exists.

56 Persecuted boffin abandons grand Italian location (5)
--r-n, so could be Turin.

49 Eject . Je = I, in France (for Louis) inside E, European and ct, abbreviation for court.

56 Turing was the persecuted boffin, Alan, the Enigma machine man. Drop the G, abandons grand.
