Buzz 'Ard, Buzz Hard, incitement to be noisy. Buzzard?

Brahan, glad I could help. I was slightly hesitant because I don't think buzzards are necessarily Scottish - i think they're found in other parts of the UK too.

Lots more round here recently - in fact they have been spreading out throughout England, pleased to say.

Thanks, ChrisE. I know very little (maybe nothing?) about birds, but Chambers didn't mention Scotland... and that was what I'd thought anyway.

Have buzzards in my wood near Stratford. Last time I went a pair circled for a while, mewing. Told them I had as much right to be there as they did, which may or may not be true

Rosalind, 'mewing' sounds a bit ... feeble for buzzards, I'd have expected a fiercer, more dramatic noise!

"mewing" is exactly right. you often hear them long before you seeone.

ChrisEm thanks - mewing just evoked images of a puny little kitten, not a big scary bird!
