Many thanks again syzygy & sunray, enjoyable as ever. The significance of the preamble relating to 10a is lost on me.

This was a very nice puzzle, quite similar to several recent Guardian Genius ones. So it's a shame it got little interest on the forum, especially in a week when The Listener was 'No Entry' to most of us.
10 Across, which is the title of the puzzle, is a sign of the change required, as the preamble says.
