Please help with parsing these:
40d: More sensible about coin coming back into currency (9)
The answer is RENASCENT, however neither of my dictionaries gives the definition of "renascent" as "more sensible".
47a: Lively one entering the next day (8)
Answer: SPIRITED. I assume this is "I" in SPRITE and D. Once more, where does Sprite mean "next". Am I barking up the wrong tree or do I need to buy a more up to date dictionary?

40 More sensible = Saner, about = Renas
Coin= Cent.

Renascent, coming back into currency, use.

47. Spirited, lively.

'The next' refers to the next clue, for which the answer is Sprite, add 1, one entering and D, day.

Thanks malone. Did you enjoy an earlier career at Bletchley Park?
Renascent? Where do I find the current definition?

Despard, glad I could help.

Renascent is in Chambers - 'coming into renewed life or vitality'.

I couldn't understand, solve, the Spirited one initially. I looked up the original crossword and saw the Sprite bite.

I would query "coming into renewed life or vitality" could be interpreted as "more sensible". I feel that is pushing credulity to its limits.

Despard, you've confused me now!

There's no pushing credulity, there's no suggestion that 'coming into renewed life..' is to be interpreted as 'more sensible'.

My mistake malone! Became so obsessed with puzzling over this clue that I overlooked your explanation. Mind you. I think that coming back into currency is a bit obscure for rebirth.

Thanks, despard.

Another definition of 'renascent' is 'reviving', so 'coming back into currency' isn't too much of a stretch, I feel.
