I can't get 44 down. The 7-letter clue is Bronte sister admits exercising with no effect N/P/I//

55 across is either Yorkshire or Berkshire but I can't see that either berk or york means to dismiss. The 9-letter clue is:

County dismisses charter

"To york" is a term in cricket for bowling someone

55a YORKER is a cricketing term so YORKS is "dismisses" + HIRE (Charter)

I think your N is wrong in the other one.

When I played cricket at school, yorkers were my least favourite type of delivery to face - you had to try and dig the ball out from your feet, very difficult.
