Incidentally your 'American oilman involved with G. Bush?' was a brilliant idea. However, (putting my judge's head on the block), I thought it needed something like 'short' on the front, particularly as magnolia doesn't begin with A.

Yes, I am the self-appointed keeper of the word lists, otherwise anyone who wishes to can update them.

Re the clue - I don't think it needs a 'short' as A is in Chambers as an abbreviation for 'American' in the sense that we accept L for 'left', etc,
however, I agree that the wordplay would work better for a word starting with A, rather than A being part of the anagram fodder.
