I don't doubt it Chris - your life being on the line probably had something to do with it and put an extra spring in your step:-)

Thank you to Brendan, Chris and Jono. Chris you helped me get the right snake. I have a phobia about snakes, so would have been terrified to come across something as venomous as 11 ac.

I knew 17ac was an anagram, but was too quick to decide resides was the answer, though clearly that doesn't fit the letters of the anagram!

The sun has come back out, so I'll work on a few more outside. No doubt I'll be back. I was pleased to get 21d and 20ac.

By the time I got back out the sun had disappeared over the roof of our west facing tall terrace, so I had to retire to our front room, which faces west.

I had to work hard on the last few clues, especially 22d and I'm really not sure about 12ac. Why couldn't I see the answer to 9ac earlier? I'm still not sure about 22ac - can't parse it. I have four letters from the six and it must be ??? ???.

Perhaps next week It will be an easier one for me.

Back to my Latin tomorrow.

12 is an extremely poor "homophone".
As I said earlier, 22a is obvious if you ignore the "scorned rather".

Coming in late, on a sunny Sunday morning! Got quite. Long way with this one, but fell over on Spencer and the beast.

All I have left is 3d which must be obvious but I just can’t see it. A hint anyone?

Hi Kip, vat is as in vessel, plural, going upwards, underneath an archaic word for ‘you’

Hi Kipstewart,

The answer is something a well spoken Vicky Pollard might say 😄
