jogamel - the theme lurches from there to different 'befores & afters' - and the 4 letter theme is a bit stretched, if you ask me (the f-b one is probably the stretchiest... but think about what might follow 'goal...').

Can I intrude on a sporting conversation to enquire whether the two earlier silver columns are related to the content of the third?

Yes, it's all a bit of a stretch - it's just the 4 letter word + the single word 'clues' holding them all together (I think).
The sporting one seems to be a very specific location for a very general...

On the verge of giving up having sorted the second two silver bits and got an answer for each of the clues I have several letters/options for the first of them and no idea for the first. Something to do with mail?
Any hints gratefully received otherwise it's recycle time!
