It looks as though there are two possible answers for the unclued 36 across.

Indeed, although one is in very common usage, the other not.

I would tend to go with the one in more common usage because in this puzzle, apart from the key word itself at 14 down, Doc doesn’t seem to be going for particularly arcane vocabulary.

That's what I decided as well, especially as the more obscure word is an alternative spelling.

I too see two possibilities for 36a, that is, present tense and past participle of same verb. I have taken the pp, consistent with 32a being a pp.

Am I missing something?

My two possibilities are a synonym for stories and a word for a type of helmet. At 32 across I have a superlative. The key to 16a, 32a and 36a is the meaning of the Spanish imperative.

Thanks, alwayspuzzled. I am on a different tack to you I think. My links to the imperative are indeed for 16a, 32a and 36a. However at 32 I have a pp not a superlative, which seems to me to be clearly linked to the imperative. At 36 I see something done by a Red Devil, if you get my meaning!

All finished. Except 19d is puzzling me a bit. I have a word for printers but haven’t worked out why. Any help please?
