The answer looks like SARIS, but I cannot parse it properly. I would have thought that father was SIRE, not SIR.
Any help gratefully received.

AS backwards (retro) is SA and RIS backwards is SIR which is a formal
(retro) way of saying father

I'm having trouble parsing 38Ac: Like Rex when forming dire pop group?

I have I?D?E.

INDIE fits, and might relate to a pop group, but otherwise, I'm struggling!

It is INDIE : Rex is R. The r in ‘dire’ is IN DIE. Took me a while to see it too!

and one more:
24a Naughty sister, I have to be kicking against the pricks (9).
Looks like 'resistive' but I don't understand the 'kicking against the pricks'.

Naughty = anagram , of Sister I've ( I have). Resistive = to be kicking against the pricks.
