Hi all!

I've been learning to do cryptic crosswords with the extra time I've had on my hands of late. I've been doing the daily Western Mail as it's the paper my father uses.

Today's was particularly troublesome, I found myself leaning heavily on filling in letter spaces, and still struggling to reverse engineer the logic.

There's one I'm completely confounded by - "He makes his mark at times" (7) = ELECTOR

Would someone be willing to take the time to explain this one to me? Often I'll reason out just a portion of a clue but this one has me at an utter loss.

Any advice on good papers/online sources for beginner puzzlers would also be much appreciated!

Thanks in advance!
Ecko

Hi Ecko
The `times` refers the x an elector puts on the ballot paper

Elector = voter, somebody who uses X to cast a vote. X is also the mathematical symbol for times.

Hi Eckosierra,

Below is a link for the Everyman crossword. In addition to that you can try lots of others and, if you click on the "cryptic" option at the top of the page, you can to ones where there is a "reveal" button if you get stuck.

Good luck:-)
