Have A?S?ER and think the answer is ANSWER but why ?

Are you sure it's not ADDLED..

Tot = ADD + LED "was first"

Of course Brendan - thank you. I now know why I had an S instead of the D. The across answer is Pinstriped not Pinstripes.
