Can only think Bard`s hip could be someone`s view of his status?

-ship as a prefix in Chambers
... ; position, rank, status eg lordship ...
and bardship is also listed in Chambers with aristo quite correctly identifying bard with poet rather than "the Bard".

Thanks to everone taking part this week.
A fairly average response this week with 25 clues from 11 setters. A mention for faiton who provide 6 of these with #7 being my favourite.

On my shortlist were;

Either of mattrom's are good enough appear in a published puzzle.
Fiery's evocation of nazi interrogators was sublime.
Aristo's appendage may be too near the knuckle !

Mostly for the inventive use and distraction of 'gutted' but the melodramatic surface is also to be admired.

The prize is no surprise, I suppose.
