54 Wish, desire, from Swish, smart, dropping the S/suppressing Singular.

7a 'Go in' is bat (my wife hates cryptic crosswords because you need to understand cricket), five by two is ten = batten.

5a Swish minus the 's' for singular is wish.

Haven't got 48a either.

48 Confluent, like flowers (rivers, things that flow) when meeting. Con, study, Flu, illness and ENT, hospital department.

54a I'm not sure about this one I'm afraid. I put wish since I got jackdaw for 43d, which I reckon is correct. Still don't understand the wish answer though!

Any thoughts on 49a: See beer in guilty sense without one getting better (13) = convalescence. You've got ale (beer) in conscience without the i (one), so where is the 'v' coming from?
