Daily Telegraph book:
Clue: Pass from town to city.
Answer: Chester

Why? Why not any other seven letter town/city?

It might be Grant (= pass) taken from Grantchester.
not entirely convinced tho.

Possibly Chesterfield minus field giving Chester. where field = pass/catch a ball...but I`m not sure either!

Along the same lines but I think better is (Col)chester. Col is quite commonly used as pass (as in Alpine pass).

Answer: Olio ?
