9A - A sad breakdown publicised (6) ?P?E?D. SPREAD - if the P is correct.

Hi Myla

I thought SPREAD for 9a too but wasn`t sure ... I think it might be UPSEND meaning `cast`. The end of ups could be a sad breakdown?

Hi Myla,

the best I can come up with is either "breakdown" = SP (as in "what happened/break it down for me/what's the SP?" and "publicised" is READ or "breakdown" = PARSED and "a sad" indicates an anagram, but that would be a ghost anagram which I think is a bit of a no-no, also "breakdown" is present tense and "parsed" is past - hopefully someone can come up with a better solution.

Nice one Ian, it's amazing how even the most nonsensical parse can make seem to make sense if you stare long enough!
