With its preponderance of recondite vocabulary, this puzzle reminded me of the old Beelzebubs in the deceased Independent on Sunday with its Oxford dictionary prize .... anyone want to chat about that ....?

Your post brought a smile to my face Gerba. The only time I ever did the Beelzebub was when I found a copy of the paper on a train. You can imagine my very pleasant surprise when the OED arrived.

I won that dictionary so many times that I ran out of friends and relations to give copies to. I took the last copy still in its shrink wrap to a 2nd hand book dealer, who sniffed at it, telling me that nobody buys dictionaries any more. My view was that all serious dictionary users were getting theirs free as crossword prizes.
Frankly I think that Private Eye offer the best prize, but I've never won that one........
