I think perhaps 31 is meant to be interpreted as CYCLE ('ride') over ('around') A M ('a mile'), followed by N ('northern').

Thanks, Spoffy - I don't know why I put End, anything to do with End in my answer - especially as I had the E from my cycle. I think I must have been distracted for some reason!
