I think the setter was right in justifying the plural form at 6d, and if the abbreviation hadn't been used the clue would have taken up 3 lines as opposed to two (so, a typesetting issue, perhaps?).

sorry, - 'might have ...' not 'would have...'

I didn't think about the abbrev saving a line, but what you say makes sense. I suppose the setter wrote "that have" but the Editor changed it.

I wondered if there was a reason to explain why she was in both the EV and IQ - it seemed more than a coincidence:-)

I read about it in today's Times but saw or heard nothing before the anniversary. Strange for such a great lady and she has been on banknotes

I agree with Brendan's first post. The Listener was far too difficult for me - too many cold clues that I couldn't solve. AZED 2500 was a joy.

Where is the IQ crossword please? Mrs Seal would like me to spend more time in my end of the pond.
