Nice one Mathi, I reckon that's it.

I do like the picture in the link you gave, it reminds me of the shapes my brothers and sisters and I would draw when we were children using a spirograph - I've just checked on Google and apparently you can still buy them:-)

Thanks Brendan, 1a obvious now, should have seen it. Re 22a I believe Venus is a variety of the flower making up the last four letters

Well, that was hard work, and not a lot of fun.

Any hints for my last two, the crossing 25a and 23d?

Think card game, and top as in chop the head off

Hi Chris,

It was pretty tough, definitely.

25a the NASA just means it's American - a 3 letter synonym for "dark" + E(nergy) - definition is "ready (money) for NASA".

23d is a 6 letter game minus it's top/first letter and the definition is also "top"

Thanks Brendan - all done now, though some unparsed. Paul isn't my favourite compiler!

Please could someone provide some hints for 20d and 26a?

Many thanks!

26 definition is "loosely" arrangement". Stop gives a word that usually refers to a liquid.
20 is one of my unparsed ones, so I will follow with ineterest!

The inverted commas were supposed to be for "arrangement", not "loosely"!

Thanks Chris....

I now have answers for both but, like you, can't parse 20d...
