If the front is a double definition, how does the cut maiden fit?

FRAGMENT ('something similar [to remnant]') with (RAG ('bit of cloth') M ('maiden')) removed ('cut'). Definition is 'Remnant'.

That's a double/double definition - 2 defs for 'remnant' are in the clue.
