Is anyone else having a problem where 7d meets 25a? I felt sure I had the correct solutions for both, but they do not work together (my 7d currently ends in 'S', I need it to end in 'E'). Chambers does not include a suitable alternative spelling.
Is this another one for my non-existent copy of OED?!

Well it'll cost a pretty penny...

I use the compact edition which is not abridged but requires a magnifying glass.

There are a few on ebay (in the UK) at around £30 - and its a lot of book for your buck - e.g.

OED is a dangerous book for old people: I put my shoulder out taking it from the bottom shelf and then got eyestrain trying to read it. You don't want to drop it on your foot either. Best avoid cryptics, my GP suggests.
