Sorry Malcolm - that was a little occluded.

Swing was - according to Chambers a fictional 'Captain' used as the figurehead of a (Luddite?) group of 'rick-burners' who made threats against operators of threshing mills in 1830's.

Cornish = SW

Meadow = ING

Double definition . .

"change" = swing

to swing (slang) = to be hanged = "final sentence"

"to end with a full stop" = perhaps a rather grisly elaboration on that "final sentence"
