are you sure there isn't an A missing from the clue? (Maybe "the Italian A Hun) Otherwise, it looks like:-

A + T(ime) + T(ension) + IL ("the" in Italian) + A It's this last A that I can't account for.

That's what I was coming up with too but there isn't another A in the clue so I am still trying to work it out.

the Italian could also be LA - so you could have a spare i instead !!!
