Help please parsing these.....

Why?

17a SNAFU is an acronym SITUATION NORMAL ALL FOULED (or FU??ED) UP.

Brendan, I think it's because all the vowels, A, E, I, O and U are found in that phrase, 'post ultimately' . The complete set is there.

… and the Y too, sometimes classed as a vowel.

12a in it can mean enjoying success.

in it i ally (big bit iffy).
