A friend is looking for a place on the west coast of mainland Scotland. The clue is .... Heir's terrier. (6,8,5) A hint would be useful. Thanks.

This isn't really a hint as I have no idea what the answer is. But a terrier is not just a breed of dog, it has several meanings including a list of land belonging to a land owner, the Church etc, with acreage and rents. This seems to sit well with "heir's".
I only know this because I saw an ancestor had made a terrier of the church lands belonging to St Mary's, Hanwell.

Of course, Cairn terrier! We even had one once!! Doh
And Bonnie Prince Charlie was certainly an heir.

I'm sorry. I have not seen a quiz sheet. I was just asking as a favour for a friend.

drxx - No it wasn't your fault. Since it's a "no asking" quiz the question should never have been posted in the first place although I assume that's because the friend mostyn refers to forgot to mention that fact.
